Xi and Peng: an exemplary couple

The Qixi festival, which this year is celebrated on August 10, is known as Chinese Valentine’s Day. On this very special day, let’s take a look at the love story of President Xi Jinping and his spouse Peng Liyuan.

Xi and Peng married in September 1987. They had a dinner with some colleagues and friends in celebration of a classic wedding ceremony.

Although Xi and Peng were separated by their professional responsibilities most of the time, they shared mutual understanding and concern.

When Peng applies for the Spring Festival Gala, Xi prepares dumplings and waits for his spouse to return home for the reunion dinner.

Winters are cold in Fujian province, where Xi worked, so Peng sewed a quilt for her husband. Peng took the new duvet and personally passed it on to Xi.

“I have a very satisfied family. My spouse and I have our own careers, but we work together to build the family,” Xi once said.

After making several combined appearances overseas and dressing up in matching outfits on occasion, Xi and Peng’s love story has earned admiration around the world.
