Tokina Cinema Vista-P 40mm, 65mm, 105mm and 135mm focal lengths

Tokina Cinema has added 40mm, 65mm, 105mm and 135mm focal lengths to its Vista-P series. These are recorded for the series’ existing 18mm, 25mm, 35mm, 50mm and 85mm focal lengths.

Tokina Cinema’s Vista-P lenses have been specially designed to offer filmmakers a unique blend of antique character but with a superior solution. The lenses are meant to produce photographs with an old-fashioned, swirling, sinister character towards the edge of the frame, combined with incredibly superior solution in between.

Tokina Cinema Vista Primes have been a popular choice for customization and “detuning” through third-party brands and rental companies, seeking to achieve a less perfect symbol towards the edge of the frame, which is often achieved by converting the aerial area among the elements readily available on the back of each lens. Adding shims can keep those elements more to one side and has a slight effect. To achieve the greatest visual effect, greater space is required between other internal elements of the lens, which is not imaginable with this type of relatively undeniable modification. Due to this popularity, Tokina Cinema made the decision to redesign the Vista Primes as a factory option.

To achieve this look, Tokina Cinema repositioned elements of the design, not just on the back of the Vista-P lenses. By moving the location of the lens elements, strong circular distortion is intentionally introduced. which is a feature more commonly associated with older lenses. The adjustments create lower contrast and greater distortion.

At first glance, Vista-P prime lenses physically resemble existing Vista lenses, but optically they look different. At the edge of the frame, the look is similar to well-known vintage lenses such as Helios-44 or Petzval with their swirl distortion, while overall the look is cleaner and more modern, with a solution that surpasses classic vintage lenses. .

In addition to the difference in character, the Tokina Cinema Vista-P lenses retain all the other key benefits of the older Vista Primes. They do not have concentrated breathing and have symbol circles with a definition field of 46. 7 mm that can cover all large format film cameras. The lenses have the same front outer diameter of 114mm. and a nine-blade iris, and are available in PL, LPL, Sony E, EF or MFT mount.

With the Tokina Cinema Vista-P series, the round distortion effect is more visual in the definition domain for Vista Vision/Full Frame. The effect can be softened at the edge of the frame if Super35 or smaller formats are used.

Due to the complexity of the modification, it will have to be made at the Tokina Cinema factory in Japan. The Vista-P series will be available for purchase as new logo lenses that have already been fully modified at the time of purchase, or as upgrades to existing Vista Prime lenses that require the lenses to be returned to Tokina Cinema and shipped to Japan for modification. Once done, the conversion cannot be reversed because it would not be profitable.

The Tokina Cinema Vista-P lenses cost $7,499, while the 25mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm lenses will charge $7,499 each. The 18mm, 40mm, 65mm and 105mm charge $8,999. The 135mm costs $9,999.

If you already have Tokina Cinema Vista lenses, the retrofit will cost approximately $2,000 per lens, plus shipping.
