San Antonio Spurs Sports Academy Announces First Virtual Summer Camp

COVID-19 has forced adjustments in almost every industry, including sports, with a league like the NBA inching towards a restarted return after what will be four months away. The impact also covers youth athletes, with the loss of in-person activities that changes a family’s summer. However, with today’s announcement from the San Antonio Spurs organization, youth athletes will receive the chance to participate in virtual activities throughout the month of July.

The Spurs Sports Academy will keep youth athletes active in the South and Central Texas areas with today’s announcement of its first virtual summer camp. With three week-long sessions available, male and female registrants ages 6-15 will participate in basketball-focused activities while receiving top-level instructions from the comfort of home. It is open to all skill levels.

All participants are required to have a smartphone, tablet or computer, Wi-Fi access, a Zoom account, and equipment that includes a basketball, athletic shoes, and a water bottle.

The week-long summer camps will start on Monday, July 13, with new sessions beginning each of the following two Mondays. More information on dates and pricing are below:

Session 1 (July 13-16)

Open for boys and girls ages 6-15, the session cost is $50. Matt Bonner, who spent 10 seasons with the Spurs and won two NBA championships, will make an appearance.

Session 2 (July 20- 23)

Open for boys and girls ages 6-15, the session cost is $50.

Session 3 – July 27- 30

Each week-long camp includes sessions with Train the Mind, the Positive Coaching Alliance, and live Q&As with Spurs camp coaches. Along with daily contests and prizes, youth athletes can connect through these positive resources and learn more about the game of basketball.

Sessions begin soon. For registration and the San Antonio Sports Academy, please visit SpursSportsAcademy.com.

I cover the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs and their fluctuating salary-cap situation. For the past decade, I have followed and studied the game of basketball, with knowledge of player performances and salary cap situations, which is one of the most discussed aspects of the NBA. I specialize in the Spurs, who I have followed for a number of years and tracked their consistent regular-season success, along with the tumbling Kawhi Leonard saga. Overall, I have focused on sports writing for the past five years, starting at SUNY Cortland, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications with a concentration in Journalism.
