Shoppers have been hit by closures in recent years, as some of their favorite chains closed their locations.
The cost-of-living crisis has left families with less in their pockets, prompting some to cut spending.
This had a knock-on effect on branches, which experienced a decrease in traffic and cash registers, and many were forced to close their stores.
That, coupled with ongoing restructuring plans and high rents, has meant several chains have shuttered hundreds of sites.
Figures from the Center for Retail Research, a research foundation, reveal that around 10,500 retail outlets last closed in 2023.
During the 12-month period, more than 119,000 jobs were in the sector.
According to the Center’s most recent data, in January, February, March, April, and May 2024, 804 outlets closed and 16,565 jobs were lost in the retail sector.
This month will be no different, with at least 10 outlets ending for the last time.
Of course, it’s not all bad news, in some cases branches will be replaced by larger and larger stores.
Retailers open and close outlets for a variety of reasons, not just because they are struggling.

But shoppers in Cumbernauld, North Lanarkshire, Scotland, will soon have to look for an alternative shopping option as the chain prepares to close its store on July 20.
A spokesperson for Card Factory said: “We continuously review our fleet of over 1,050 outlets across the United Kingdom and Ireland.
“Together with our Cumbernauld store around the corner from the Antonine Shopping Centre on Forth Walk (0. 2 miles away), we have made the resolution to close our store on Teviot Street effective July 20.
“We look forward to continuing to serve all of our Cumbernauld consumers and help them celebrate their special moments in life. “
Peacocks, on Holywell High Street in Flintshire, Wales, will do so on July 25.
The store is characterized by selling cheap and cheap clothes.

The downsizing store says the resolution was made after a deal on a new lease for the Marygate facility collapsed.
Specializing in gifts, arts, crafts, toys, books and stationery, The Works has been a favorite branch for several years.
But the Berwick store will close its shutters for the last time on Friday, July 26.
A spokesperson for the store told the Northumberland Gazette: “We can verify that we will be completing our Berwick-upon-Tweed on July 26.
“This location has been ideal for The Works, but unfortunately we have not reached an agreement on suitable rental terms to stay.
“We acknowledge any inconvenience caused by this closure and would like to thank the consumers who have shopped at the store over the years. ”
An “excellent” branch of Robert Dyas will also appear in July.
The popular site, in Castlepoint, Bournemouth, will close its shops on July 20.
The sad news comes after the store got a prize from its owner.
A spokesperson for Robert Dyas confirmed: “The owner has advised our Castle Point shop as he wanted to split the unit in two and unfortunately we have not reached an agreement on the terms of an offer for one of those units.
“We will be leaving this store on July 20 and will continue to look for another new and suitable location in the area, as it is a very successful store for us.
“Meanwhile, the nearest stores, for our steadfast Robert Dyas customers, are Poole and Christchurch. “
Costa Coffee on Inglis Street in Inverness, Scotland, will do so for the last time on July 24.
The central company is a favorite spot for citizens and tourists alike.
Costa said that everything that runs in the store will be implemented in other branches.
In April, it was announced that the branch would close its doors later this year.
The coffee giant operates several outlets in the city, adding one just a three-minute walk from the Inglis Street branch in Eastgate Centre.
There is also Costa at Inverness Retail Park, Inshes Retail Park and the fitness station.
A spokesperson for Costa Coffee said: “We can verify that our Costa Coffee shop on Inglis Street in Inverness will be open on 24 July.
“Customers can continue to drink their favorite Costa coffee at the nearest Costa Coffee café in Eastgate Shopping Centre. ”
The owners of Picturehouse have shown that they will close their Stratford East on July 29.
It comes after Cineworld, which operates the cinema chain, announced it would close two Picturehouse sites in Bromley and Fulham Road, London.
A Picturehouse spokesman said the company had made the difficult decision to close the three cinemas due to “increasing operating prices and declining admissions”.
He commented, “Picturehouse members will be contacted in the coming days about the remaining time at their club.
“We would like to thank our hard-working groups and our unwavering consumers for their efforts over the years. “
The spokesman said Picturehouse had opened three new cinemas in the past six months in Ealing, Chester and Epsom.
A local said: “This is the first cinema I’m a member of. It is a real shame that it is closing. “
