‘India has lost a man’: From Macron to Blinken, tributes come from around the world to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh

Russian President Vladimir Putin has extended his condolences to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Modi over the death of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. In his condolence letter, Putin described Singh as “a statesman. ” 

Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba also paid tribute to the former prime minister for his “efforts that laid the foundation for the current progress between Japan and India. ” 

Bangladesh’s top advisor Muhammad Yunus also sent his message of condolence, describing Singh as a “humble person, a visionary leader, a statesman. ” 

China on Friday also paid tribute to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, saying he made a “positive contribution” to the progression of Indo-China relations and recalling key agreements signed between the two countries during his tenure on the contentious border issue.

French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his condolence and said: “India has lost a great man, and France a true friend, in the person of Dr. Manmohan Singh. He had devoted his life to his country. Our thoughts are with his family and the people of India.”

Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai, in an article on Karzai praised Singh as “a steadfast best friend and friend of the Afghan people. ” and offered his sincere condolences.
