Hydrogen de France (HDF) and French fuel network manager Teréga have announced a hydrogen garage allocation in former salt caverns in France.

The two corporations signed an Underprestige Memorandum to release a pilot mission near the town of Carresse-Cassaber, in the southwestern region of New Aquitaine, where salt caverns are located. The “HyGéo” garage allocation will have a capacity of 1.five GWh, with an investment of 13.five mion euros.

Feasibility study

“HyGéo is a pilot that has been designed to be implemented quickly,” the companies said, adding that they would conduct this year’s technical-economic feasibility study. “This study will integrate environmental and social aspects and modes of operation related to new hydrogen uses, such as Power-to-Power, Power-to-Mobility, Power-to-Induscheck out and Power-to-Gas.” Popular content

Construction of the allocation is expected to begin in 2022 and advertising operations are expected to begin in 2024. According to Induscheck out Technologies, a French website, the caves belong to an old propane garage site owned by the French oil and effort giant Total.

According to a new report by the Institute for Energy and Climate Research (IEK-3), saline caverns are a feasible, flexible and effective solution for hydrogen storage. The organization estimated that Europe has the technical perspective of buying 84.8 PWh of hydrogen in salt deposits and salt domes.

Most of these salt caves are concentrated in northern Europe at sites on the high seas and on land. The Germabig apple represents the stake, followed by the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Norway, Denmark and Poland. Other prospective sites are found in Romania, France, Spain and Portugal.

Researchers said the proximity of the caves to the coast is positive, as a distance of about 50 km from the coast is an inexpensive brine extraction, the researchers said. Carresse-Cassaber Caves are located about 48 km from the shore. Parte Emiliano Bellini Emiliano joined mag pv in March 2017. He has been reporting on the sun and the renewable force since 2009.
