The German government has condemned an attack in which a young Ghanaian woman and her father were wounded.
Police said an 8-year-old Ghanaian woman and her 10-year-old sister were targeted through an organization of about 20 teenagers and young adults on Friday night.
The 8-year-old woman and her father were injured and hospitalized.
The attack occurred in the city of Grevesmühlen in the northeastern German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
Police said the attackers kicked the woman in the face, after which the woman’s parents intervened.
According to police reports, one of the alleged assailants continued to face racial slurs to those affected after police arrived at the scene.
Police are investigating for disorderly conduct, assault, incitement to hatred and verbal violence.

The Federal Minister of the Interior, Nancy Faeser, said on the X platform, formerly Twitter, that her mind and solidarity are with young people and their families.
“Calling young people racist names and brutally attacking them is a sign of deep hatred and inhumanity,” he said.
Grevesmühlen Mayor Lars Prahler told German public broadcaster NDR 1 Radio MV that he was surprised by the incident.
“This racially motivated crime just stuns me. It shows bottomless hatred and uninhibited inhumanity and must be excused,” he said.
He added that the fact that some of the suspects are teenagers is an excuse for this behavior.
The Prime Minister of State, Manuela Schwesig, condemned in an article about X.
“The injured woman is 8 years old, she is as young as my daughter. We will have to stop hate and hate speech from poisoning our society and violence from threatening our children,” he said.
Jana Michael, commissioner for integration of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, suggested to the members of the youth organization that they call the perpetrators.
“Any witness who remains silent is complicit and impedes the investigation of this disgusting child violence,” he said.
