Financial Times says that Chinese President Xi Jinping will send a high -level envoy to Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration in a movement aimed at friction between China and the United States.
The British newspaper reported Thursday, introducing several other people familiar with the talks. He said Beijing informed Trump’s transition team that a senior official would attend XI’s position.
Trump invited the Chinese president to the inauguration rite on Jan. 20.
The Financial Times says Xi could instead send Vice President Han Zheng or Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
The newspaper says some Trump advisers want Cai Qi to attend. Cai is a member of the Chinese Communist Party’s Politburo Standing Committee and is one of Xi’s closest aides.
The newspaper says: “The presence of one of the public officials will not have precedents, since China was represented in the past through its ambassador to Washington. “
He also says: “Beijing is desperate to facilitate friction with Washington, while it was inclined for a serious escalation of industry tensions. ” Trump advised to expand the costs of Chinese imports once he has assumed the position.
