Federal government investigating protest site after New Jersey employee killed by backhoe

SCOTCH PLAINS – A man was killed in an incident with heavy appliances during the demolition of a home this week, police said.

On Monday afternoon, a crew ran at the site of a structure in the 2000 block of Mountain Avenue, News 12 reported.

An employee went through the bucket of a backhoe and suffered a serious head injury, NJ. com reported, mentioning the municipal police.

He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The employer, Americana Design, has no history with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, confirmed hard federal work.

As of Wednesday, the worker’s identity had been publicly revealed through police.

OSHA is now investigating the incident, with six months to finalize its findings.
