France and Germany are on a collision course, as Emmanuel Macron has opened the doors of the ministry to “deeply Germanophical” extremist parties, German experts have warned.
President Macron announced earlier this month that France would soon go to the polls after suffering a crushing defeat in the European elections, which gave a massive victory to the far-right National Rally party (RN).
The resolution left many in Europe shocked and raised serious concerns in neighboring Germany about the effect that RN leader Jordan Bardella’s victory could have on the alliance of nations.
Bardella emerged as the front-runner in the poll, a result that prompted leftist parties to form a coalition, the New Popular Front, to keep Bardella out of government. The coalition includes the far-left France Insoumise party.
Nils Schmid, spokesman for the Social Democratic Party (SPD) in the Bundestag, warned that an RN election would be a “catastrophe” between Germany and France.

Schmid said: “The RN is deeply Germanophobic. Its recovery would be a disaster for cooperation between France and Germany. “
The head of the Franco-German Youth Office, Tobias Bütow, echoed these concerns: “In Germany, many fear that a right-wing victory in France would plunge relations between our two countries into their most serious crisis since the Second World War”.
While the RN is the main fear of German politicians, the prospect of a far-left victory is fueling as many fears, as the two parties could also cause primary disorder within the European Union.
Inge Grässle of the Christian Democratic Party predicted that Germany and France would face an “extremely serious crisis” at a time when they are already tense.
Speaking to Le Monde, Grässle said: “The two parties that will have the maximum weight in the next National Assembly will be the far-right Rassemblement National and the far-left La France Insoumise.

“They both hate Germany, or they are enemies of Europe and have incredibly worrying economic programs. “
He added: “Whether one or the other has the maximum number of elected representatives, the Franco-German engine, which is already working very well, will cause an incredibly serious crisis. “
Earlier this week, Macron called on the French public not to be fooled by extremist parties, saying that RN and La France Insoumise provide the answers to “real problems” because they “react in one way or another. ” on the other, through the expansion of conflicts and civil war.
Polls show that the final results of the early elections are placed in a context of a complex electoral formula and possible alliances.
President Macron is aligned with the RN and the New Popular Front.
