Former Labor MP Michael Danby has described French President Emmanuel Macron’s commitment to holding early parliamentary elections as a “terrible mistake”.
Danby’s comments come at a time when the country’s left-wing parties are still struggling to form a joint government and the hypothesis that he would possibly be forced to resign prematurely continues.
“Macron made a terrible mistake; it’s like going back to the Third Republic of France that led to its downfall in World War II,” Danby said.
