It’s Wednesday, which means, in convention terms, that this is the time for the vice president to speak. The candidate speaks. Tonight we will hear from Senator J. D. Vance, who is Donald Trump’s choice as his running mate.

In the wake of the horrific rally shooting in Pennsylvania, Trump and his crusade team talked about a call for unity and said they would focus more on it. Vance is not a unitary option. He is not who you would turn to if he wanted to combine many other elements of the electorate. He has a tendency to be a partisan and fiery character, so I’ll be curious to see how he balances those elements in his speech.

I won’t be in Milwaukee this week. I watch it on TV, as God intended, but my colleague, Isaac Jones, is trolling in the field:
