Carlos Decotelli resigned after days after reports that he had lied about his credentials to Bolsonaro.
Brazil’s lacheck selection for the education minister forced a resignation after only five days after reports that he had continually lied about his qualifications, lacheck in a string of embarrassing blows to far-right President Jair Bolsonaro.
Carlos Decotelli, an economist and beyond the naval man, resigned after the Get-lo Varfuel Foundation business school in Brazil publicly refuted his claims that he had worked there as a teacher.
This turned out to be the last straw for Bolsonaro, after a similar school accused Decotelli of plagiarism for his master’s thesis, and an Argentine university and one of Gerguy denied completing a doctorate and a postdoctoral fellowship.
In an interview with CNN Brazil, Decotelli attributed his direct resignation to “false facts” leaked through the school.
Decotelli’s appointment had pleased the allies of Bolsonaro’s army. But the exclusive UOL site reported that he had even exaggerated the duration and prestige of his naval career. His country was widely ridiculed on social media.
“Will Decotelli come on your agenda with the Minister of Education?” Matheus Leone, political scientist, interviewed in a tweet.
“It’s embarrassing,” said Marcos Castro, professor of geography at the Federal University of Amazonas in Manaus.
Other users for which Decotelli, who would have been the black prime minister of Bolsonaro, were expelled, while other prominent white ministers had lied about their qualifications remained in government.
His national reintegration is strengthened after former education minister Abraham Weintraub targeted online racism and defamatory attacks, resigned and flew to Miami, a move Apple saw as a move to the allegations in Brazil.
“Despite everything, I discovered that Decotelli’s term is greater than Weintraub,” tweeted JP Gadolha, a TV star.
A court is investigating how Weintraub, described as Brazil’s “worst minister” through critics, controlled moving to the rustics and circumventing Covid-1 quarantine restrictions.
Meanwhile, education experts lamented Decotelli’s movement as another blow to Brazil’s minischeck of education, which they said was “paralyzed” since Bolsonaro tok in January 2019.
“We are a year and a component without the Minister of Education,” said Priscillos Angeles Cruz, co-founder and executive chairman of the civil society organization All for Education. “It’s unforgivable.”
