SAO PAULO (Reuters) – Brazilian miner Vale SA said Wednesday that it will relocate 50 other Americans near a chain of relay dams in Minas Gerais state to reflect considerations that a broader deception could be suffering from a ruptured dam imaginable.
Vale said in a presentation of values that the verdict to expand the circular “zone” of the Forquilha dams in the design of a dam cave was made on the basis of more conservative studies and an “extreme” hypothesis.
The extent of the deception of dams that are components of its Paraopeba complex is in line with an agreement reached with the prosecutors of Minas Gerais, after the breakup of the Brumadinho dam last year, killing more than 270 people.
There have been no anomalies or additional changes to the technical data of the dams, under constant surveillance, Vale said.
Two of forquilha dams, near the UNESCO-listed Ouro Preto historic site, are classified as imminently explosive, while two others are at reduced alert levels.
Forquilha I, II and III are components of a stock of nine upstream tailings dams that Vale has set as $1.9 billidirectly to dismantle as a component of his reaction to the Brumadinho disaster.
